Maternal
Since fertility is the number one economic trait in beef cattle we believe that only maternal breeds (or cattle that generally fall into the English breeds i.e. Hereford, Angus) should be included in our base cow herd.
Maternal is also related to the natural instincts of mothering ability (claiming and cleaning the calf), milking ability without extreme size or muscling.
These females should breed and calve as two year olds and hold a calving interval of around 365 days for the ten to twelve years. Fertitlity and longevity are the number one an two traits we strive for in the beef cow herd.
