The History of Bent Tree Farms Senepol Cattle
1987 to present
The Senepol is a 25 percent base component of our
South Poll composite. Our introduction to the
Senepol breed was through Mr. Nicely in Tennessee, and, after that introduction
we imported our first set of females from St. Croix, Virgin Islands.
In 1997 we again selected 80 plus head of Senepol females and three bulls
from Casa Nugent and Annely (also of St. Croix). According to University of
Florida research, Senepol is the most heat tolerant breed that they've tested.
We continue to put selection pressure on the Senepol for fertility,
longevity, and, udder and carcass qualities as well. Senepol beef marbles very
well, the meat is tender (absent of gristle) with well shaped ribeyes. We are
working with other Senepol breeders to continue to produce the best of Senepol
genetics for the southeastern production of quality beef.
We have semen available on several Senepol herd
sires.
